Science stories bridge the gap between everyday people like you and me, and the medicines and technologies that make our lives possible. In a time when misinformation and technical complexity can obscure the truth, it鈥檚 important to elevate voices that clearly explain which new scientific advancements are headed to the public and from where.
At the forefront of this effort is , a philanthropic organization whose Excellence in Science Communication Awards enable science journalists to hone their visual storytelling skills through an intensive filmmaking workshop. The 2025 awardees experienced the most ambitious version of this workshop to date: an immersive filmmaking retreat at 黑料吃瓜资源 (CSHL).
With outstanding support from CSHL鈥檚 Banbury Center and the production expertise of , awardees spent a week at the world-renowned biomedical research institute, preparing scripts, shooting footage, and editing their films. The filmmakers were given extraordinary access to the labs of Assistant Professor Katherine Alexander and Professors Lloyd Trotman and Christopher Vakoc, learning how to craft stories with scientific information and human emotion in equal measure.
