黑料吃瓜资源 (CSHL) Professor Christopher Vakoc has received an from the Long Island Herald. The award recognizes his lab鈥檚 recent advances in pediatric cancer research and education.
Earlier this year, Vakoc and his team discovered a way to transform certain cancers into healthy functioning tissue cells. They鈥檝e now accomplished this feat in the lab with two forms of pediatric cancer: Ewing鈥檚 sarcoma and rhabdomyosarcoma. This work was carried out by Vakoc mentees, including Ph.D. students in the CSHL School of Biological Sciences and postdoctoral researchers.
鈥淚t is an honor to have the scientific discoveries made in my lab recognized by the Long Island Herald,鈥� says Vakoc. 鈥淟ong Island families afflicted by cancer have been an important source of inspiration and funding for our research, particularly in pediatric sarcoma. I hope to someday report back to our local community that we have solved one or more of these dreadful diseases.鈥�
The Excellence in Healthcare Awards were first presented in 2022. This is the second time in two years that the Herald has honored a member of the CSHL faculty. Last year鈥檚 award winners included CSHL President and CEO Bruce Stillman.
