We are excited to share that the CSHL archives have acquired the Robert Waterston Collection. Dr. Waterston is the Professor of Genome Sciences at the University of Washington. He is best known for his work sequencing the genome of the nematode worm. Dr. Waterston attended the worm meetings at CSHL and in 1989 Jim Watson supported Waterston鈥檚 proposal to use the worm as a model organism in the Human Genome Project. Along with John Sulston, Waterston received one of the early Human Genome Project grants to sequence the worm genome; this led to the establishment of the US National Human Genome Research Institute.
The collection primarily consists of materials relating to Dr. Waterston’s genome sequencing research. This includes his lab notebooks, sequences, correspondence, grant applications, and conference material. Along with the collection, Dr. Waterston has written a detailed commentary to accompany his lab notebooks. The collection is currently being rehoused and processed.
