Description

Speaker(s): Associate Professor Arka Banerjee

Join us on Thursday, July 30th at 7:00 pm for another stimulating installment of Cocktails & Chromosomes at Six Harbors Brewing Company in Huntington. Unleash your inner scientist at the intersection of cocktails and cutting-edge research! Come connect with CSHL scientists, explore timely research topics, and discover how science shapes our everyday lives — all while enjoying your favorite beverage.

Deep in the cloud forests of Central America lives a tiny mouse with a surprisingly big voice, singing intricate songs and even takes turns, like a polite conversationalist. By comparing these singers with mice that do not sing, neuroscientist Arka Banerjee reveals how subtle changes in brain circuits can unlock entirely new ways of communicating. He concludes by reflecting on what these discoveries might tell us about the origins of human speech.

Note: CSHL does not provide food so please plan ahead.

Seating is limited and is first come, first serve. Standing room is available once the seats are filled. Reserving your ticket on Eventbrite does not guarantee you a seat at the event.
