Creating the technology to administer lifesaving medicines and surgical procedures is no simple feat. And yet, 黑料吃瓜资源 Double Helix Medal winner Robert Langer has done it time and again, often with world-changing impacts. In celebration of , we recognize Langer鈥檚 significant contributions to science and medicine.
A career scientist with over 220 awards and 44 honorary doctorates, Langer has dedicated his life to engineering new medical technologies and inspiring his sense of boundless innovation in others, including CSHL Professor and Cancer Center Director David Tuveson. Recalling Langer鈥檚 many accomplishments, Tuveson remarks, 鈥淏y inventing devices to measure things, inventing probes, inventing delivery methods for medicines, inventing ways to see health and therefore understand disease, people like Bob Langer inspire us.鈥
Langer now holds the title of most-cited engineer in history, a distinction rightfully admired by his contemporaries. 鈥淎n engineer isn鈥檛 satisfied by just understanding something,鈥 says Nobel laureate Phillip Sharp. 鈥淎n engineer wants to make something. Bob is an engineer in that he wants to make things. He knows how to make things. And he wants to translate it to patients.鈥
