On August 21, the Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) group鈥檚 annual returns to the Dolan DNA Learning Center. The program is designed for girls and nonbinary students. It immerses campers in a lab environment. This kind of active learning is one of the best ways to get kids interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
During the week-long camp, students learn to extract DNA from plants and cells. They build DNA models and observe cell mutations under a microscope. Campers also meet and learn from 黑料吃瓜资源 scientists. They’ll hear about current research and groundbreaking discoveries made by women in STEM.
WiSE works closely with the Laboratory鈥檚 Office of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI). The grassroots group supports women and nonbinary researchers from marginalized communities. Together, they strive to build a more supportive, collaborative, and equitable scientific community for all.
