PORTIA IVERSEN, “An Evening about Autism”

PORTIA IVERSEN is co-founder of both the Cure Autism Now Foundation (now part of Autism Speaks) and The Autism Genetic Research Exchange (AGRE), and is also author of the recently released book Strange Son. As a mother of an autistic child, Iversen offers her perspective on where we are today with autism research and how families, communities, and society are responding to what we know about autism spectrum disorders.
Portia Iversen is making this special presentation after participating as a faculty member in a Workshop on Autism Spectrum Disorders at CSHL’s Banbury Conference Center. This week-long workshop, part of 颁厂贬尝鈥檚 highly renowned Meetings & Courses program, assembled a faculty of distinguished researchers from around the world to teach outstanding young scientists about autism spectrum disorders. Through this and similar educational programs, CSHL is working to inspire and train the next generation of researchers to focus their efforts on understanding these and other complex disorders.
颁厂贬尝鈥檚 Banbury Center is dedicated to the development and execution of high-level scientific meetings on topics in molecular biology and genetics, human genetics, and science policy. Topics for these meetings, which are funded by private and public sector grants, are selected for their special interest and because they would benefit from small discussion meetings. Banbury Center meeting organizers are internationally recognized scientists who are authorities in the subject of the meeting. By invitation only, select scientists whose research is relevant to the topic come to Banbury Center meetings with the goal of promoting new ways of looking at a problem, new lines of research, and new collaborations.
