Sydney Brenner Research Fellow Gina Surita will give a virtual talk on Wednesday June 15 at 3PM.
This talk traces the history of ATP from its isolation in 1929 to its establishment as the universal energy 鈥渃urrency鈥� of the cell in the latter decades of the twentieth century. In detailing shifting understandings of the biological role of ATP, the talk explores ATP鈥檚 impact on intermediary metabolism research. It argues that biological energy researchers made cyclical energy transformations the foundation of cellular biochemistry by constructing ATP as a critical link between anabolic and catabolic intermediary metabolism.
