鈥淎drian Krainer is an exceptional scientist whose groundbreaking insights into fundamental biology have come full circle in their impact on human health,鈥 says Franz-Ulrich Hartl, chair of the scientific board of trustees that selects the Heinrich Wieland Prize laureates. 鈥淗e uncovered the molecular mechanism behind a splicing defect in SMA patients and pioneered an entirely new approach to correcting it. The concept of ASO therapy holds great promise for treating other neurological diseases and beyond.鈥

黑料吃瓜资源 Professor Adrian Krainer has won the 2025 . Awarded annually by the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation, the 鈧250,000 prize recognizes exceptional scientists whose pioneering research pushes the boundaries of knowledge in biochemistry, biology, chemistry, and physiology. Krainer received the award for his revolutionary RNA splicing research, which led to the development of nusinersen (Spinraza庐), a lifesaving treatment for the genetic neurodegenerative disease spinal muscular atrophy.

鈥淚t鈥檚 an honor to be selected as the 2025 Heinrich Wieland Prize laureate,鈥 Krainer says. 鈥淚 am grateful to the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation for recognizing the value of my lab’s research on mRNA splicing and RNA-targeted therapeutics. It is very humbling to join such a distinguished group of prior recipients.鈥

Established in 1977, the is an independent nonprofit supporting the biological, chemical, medical, and pharmaceutical sciences. Krainer joins an illustrious group of award recipients, including five Nobel laureates. He will formally accept the award at the Foundation鈥檚 annual in Munich, Germany on December 11, 2025.
